Diffusion and Activation Energies of I- and Cs+ Ions in Compacted Smectite

Sato, Haruo

Proceedings of 2nd International Meeting on Clays in Natural and Engineered barriers for Radioactive Waste Confinement (TOURS 2005) (CD-ROM), 0 Pages, 2005/03

Focusing on the cover layer materials (as the Radon Barrier Materials), which could have the effect to restrain the radon from scattering into the air and the effect of the radiation shielding, we produced the radon barrier materials with crude bentonite on an experimental basis, using the rotary type comprehensive unit for grinding and mixing, through which we carried out the evaluation of the characteristics thereof.

Estimation of In-Situ Groundwater Chemistry Using Geochemical Modeling; A Test Case for Saline Type Groundwater in Argillaceous Rock

Sasamoto, Hiroshi; Yui, Mikazu; Arthur, R. C,*

Proceedings of 2nd International Meeting on Clays in Natural and Engineered barriers for Radioactive Waste Confinement (TOURS 2005) (CD-ROM), p.259 - 260, 2005/03

Saline type groundwaters with oil, gas and coal fields are identified in the JNC's extensive database of groundwater samples from throughout Japan. Groundwater data in the Mobara area (a marine based argillaceous rock) located in the well-known

Sorption Behavior of Cs onto Bentonite Colloid

Iijima, Kazuki; Tomura, Tsutomu*; Masuda, Tsuguya*

Proceedings of 2nd International Meeting on Clays in Natural and Engineered barriers for Radioactive Waste Confinement (TOURS 2005) (CD-ROM), p.607 - 608, 2005/00

The batch sorption and desorption experiments of Cs onto bentonite colloid were carried. The sorption data was fitted to Freundlich isotherm and distribution coefficient was obtained as about 20 m$$^{3}$$/kg, which is larger than that of powdered bentonite. It might be caused by the difference of the shape of bentonite. In the desorption experiment, almost same distribution coefficient was obtained so that, at least, 30% of Cs was sorbed reversibly.
